Software/Hardware Complex for Voice and Speech Assessment in Post-Surgery Recovery of Patients with Malignant Tumors of Speech Organs

Description

Purpose

This software/hardware complex is designed to improve the efficiency of post-surgery voice recovery in patients undergoing combined treatment of malignant tumors of speech organs and to shorten their stay in the in-patient clinic. The complex currently has no competitors.

The software/hardware complex:

Developed in partnership with Tomsk Research Institute of Oncology

  • shortens the process of recovery;
  • provides the speech therapist with objective voice and speech parameters, such as the primary tone frequency, length of phonation, intelligibility of syllables and phrases;
  • makes it possible to assess the effect of voice training;
  • provides data for adjustment of therapy.

Specifications

The development is unique in that it delivers objective metrics of speech and voice quality during recovery that can be used for assessment of therapeutic efficiency.

In vocal recovery through development of esophageal voice, these metrics are primary tone frequency and length of phonation.

In speech recovery, these metrics are intelligibility of syllables and phrases.

These metrics are calculated using algorithms that take into account the human auditory system, delivering highly accurate measurements.

Advantages

  • Parametric representation of changes in phoneme production in patients with oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer;
  • New methods for speech quality assessment during recovery that use parametric representation of changes in phoneme production that deliver uniquely objective quantitative quality assessment;
  • New methods for objective quantitative assessment of recovery efficiency in the course of combined treatment in patients with oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer that make it possible to compare efficiency of therapy measures;
  • New technique for post-surgery speech recovery in patients with oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer using engineering methods and mathematical modeling makes it possible to shorten the process of recovery to 30 days (from 2—4 months), enhance efficiency of recovery, reduce the number of patients with formal disability, allow patients of employable age to return to work, improve their social adaptation and life quality.
  • Tested technology
  • Certification
  • Legal protection of technology

Application

Speech recovery, where a reference for a specific patient can be obtained.
