Device for Electron-Beam Sterilization of Inner Surfaces of Dielectric Containers

Description

The project aims to create a new technology for sterilization of inner surfaces of dielectric containers using an electron beam in the forevacuum.

Sterilization is achieved by exposure of surfaces to electrons and by impact of the beam plasma that serves as the ion source, and UV radiation that has a destructive effect on microbes.

The technology is based on a unique forevacuum plasma electron source (proprietary design by TUSUR) that is unique in that it can be used to process both conductive and dielectric materials and objects due to its ability to operate under high pressure, solving the problem of charge accumulation inside the container.

Specifications

  • Beam current: up to 100 mA
  • Accelerating voltage: up to 10 kV
  • Operating pressure: 1—30 Pa
  • Plasma-forming gas: air, nitrogen, oxygen, argon, etc.
  • Operating mode: continuous or pulsed

Advantages

The electron beam is injected directly inside the container, processing only its inner surfaces. That ensures selectiveness and accuracy of the process.

Unlike the conventional plasma generation method (in a container with the help of an external HF inductor), electron-beam plasma generation makes possible a smooth, wide-range control of plasma parameters by adjusting the current, beam energy and gas pressure.

Processing of containers made of both conductive and non-conductive materials, including glass, plastic and ceramics, without any harmful chemicals or stray X radiation.

Availability of both continuous and pulsed electron beam, making it possible to use the technology in containers made of non-heat-resistant polymer materials.

Ease of use for mass production

Application

Pharmaceutical industry, healthcare, i.e. areas where sterility and chemical purity of containers is a high priority.
