Department of Control and Design Systems

Informatics and computer engineering is the field of science and technology that encompasses the ways and means, and methods of human activity, aimed at creating and using of computers, computer systems and networks, automated information processing and control systems, software and automated design systems.

The objective of the master program is to train highly qualified specialists in the field of software development, research and development of design technology for hard- and software systems and specialized hardware of information control systems, distributed and embedded systems of various purpose, and the making of relevant toolkits. The spectrum of professional activity of the graduates includes theoretical and experimental research of scientific and technical problems and the solution of tasks in designing toolkits and software for computer systems and networks, automated information processing and control systems (including distributed ones), computer-assisted design (CAD) systems, and computer-assisted engineering (CAE).

The subjects of the graduates’ professional activity include:

  • Computing machinery, assemblies, systems and networks.
  • Automated information processing and control systems.
  • CAD and CAE systems.
  • Computer and automated systems software (programs, program suites and systems).
  • Mathematical, informational, technical, linguistic, software, ergonomic, organizational and legal support of the above-listed systems.

 

Graduate's expertise and skills

 

The graduate of the master program within major code 09.04.01 “Informatics and computer engineering” will be able to handle the following professional tasks:

Research activity:

  • Develop the detailed designs and programs for scientific research and technical development, draw-out individual assignments for the front-line workers.
  • Develop the mathematical models of the subject processes and products, and the design methods for new processes and products.
  • Develop the methods for implementation and follow-up support of software products.
  • Develop the methods to automate the decision-making.
  • Prepare scientific-technical reports, reviews, and publications following the completion of research.
  • Prepare applications for inventions and pre-production prototypes.

Design activity:

  • Prepare assignments for the development of design solutions
  • Draw-up designs for various purpose automated systems, justify the selection of hard- and software automation means for industries and firms.
  • Provide conceptual design of complex articles, including software suites, using the means of automated design, cutting-edge experience in the development of competitive articles.
  • Carry out projects to make automated information systems programs, databases and suites.
  • Develop and implement projects on the integration of information systems as per the methods and standards for information support of produced articles, including the methods and standards of document flow, integrated logistic support, and quality assessment of programs and databases of an electronic business.

Industrial and technological activity:

Design and use of toolkits for implementation of hard- and software projects.

Develop the methods for software products sales and support.

Test the software and databases.

Informatics and computer engineering is one of the most in demand fields of study both at the current labor market and for the years ahead.

 

Requirements to master program applicants

 

For a successful completion of a principal academic master program, an applicant must possess the knowledge in the respective domain in the scope stipulated by the state education standards for higher education and a state-issued higher education document (degree) of at least bachelor’s level.

Those willing to complete master programs shall be enrolled based on the results of their admission examination in the academic disciplines selected by the administering department.

 
Specialization: Automated Design of Micro and Nanoelectronic Devices for Radio Engineering Systems
Department of Control and Design Systems

The master program was launched by TUSUR at the premises of Department of Computer Control and Design Systems for the first time in Russia due to high demand for such specialists on the labor market. The relevance of this master program is conditioned by the fact that Russian radio engineering industry companies shift to new hardware components: integrated monolithic circuits of super high frequency band (SHF) and systems-on-a-chip, based on heterostructure nanoelectronics. This allows for the making of the whole new level radio engineering systems and sets of various purpose.

The training of the master program students takes place at the premises of TUSUR’s scientific-academic center “Nanotechnologies”, which has unique metering and technological equipment, and in research laboratories, equipped with up-to-date software, units and devices.

The master program stipulates an on-site training at Russian companies and industries that are interested in attracting the graduates, or in TUSUR’s research laboratories. Moreover, in course of study, those master program students, who have the necessary professional knowledge and language skills will be provided with an opportunity to undergo training or apprenticeship in the universities and laboratories of France and Italy. For this purpose, the students will be able to learn the French language in the TUSUR’s Russian-French center, which operates at the premises of the Department of Computer Control and Design Systems design.

The topics for master degree thesis include the issues of SHF measurements, modeling of components, the use and adaptation of special software, automated design and engineering of SHF devices, IC and SoC, and modern radio engineering systems, based on IC and SoC. The training is provided by top-qualification teaching staff, including two doctors of science and seven candidates of science.

 

Graduate’s expertise and skills

 

The graduates receive the expertise, necessary to work in design-centers and engineering bureaus of the companies operating in the field of integral circuits (IC) and systems-on-a-chip (SoC) development in HF and SHF band, based on semi-conducting materials, such as GaAs, GaN, Si, SiGe and other, using the latest achievements of micro- and nanoelectronics, and make modern radio engineering systems and sets, based on the above. In order to do this job, the graduates make use of the spectrum of knowledge, including the use and adaptation of computer-assisted design (CAD) systems, smart computer systems, applied programming, technological fundamentals of micro- and nanoelectronics, SHF equipment, the skill and means of measurement and various types of modeling (electrical, electromagnetic, heat, mechanical, etc.), the design and engineering of SHF semiconductor devices, analog IC, SoC and radio engineering systems, based on these.

In course of their study, the master program students receive deep knowledge in the following domains:

  • Physical and technological fundamentals of micro- and nanoelectronics.
  • SHF circuits, elements and models.
  • Semiconducting SHF-band devices.
  • Automated design of SHF integral circuits and systems-on-a-chip.
  • Circuitry engineering for SHF integral circuits and systems-on-a-chip.
  • Fundamentals of designing SHF semiconducting devices.
  • Measurements in SHF devices and integral circuits.
  • Radio engineering systems based on SHF integral circuits.
  • Automated design of SHF antennas.
  • Smart systems.
  • Optimization methods.

  • Software development technology.

In addition to that, the graduates may get and improve their foreign language skills in English and/or French (optionally), which will expand their capabilities in participating in international academic exchange programs, apprenticeships abroad and increase their overall professional level.

 
Specialization: Dataware for Hardware and Software Complexes
Department of Economic Mathematics, Informatics and Statistics

Completion of the master program allows one to become a highly qualified specialist in the field of design engineering and the use of program systems, demanded by the modern society.

The training takes place at the premises of academic and research laboratories of the department, which are equipped with modern hardware and software, and computers. For instance, it has components of the automation systems used in petroleum industry, a model of “Smart house” system, training robots, etc. The master program students will also be able to carry out their scientific research and practical work in the TUSUR’s Scientific-academic center “Nanotechnologies”, in the laboratories of TUSUR Research Institute and address real-life challenges during their on-site training in various companies.

The training is provided by both the TUSUR staff and the leading specialists of Tomsk companies that specialize in software and hardware development for automated process control systems.

The curriculum of the master program stipulates advanced study of foreign languages, including optional French. The students will also be given an opportunity to undergo their training and apprenticeship abroad, namely at the University of Limoges (France), with which TUSUR has a student exchange agreement.

 

Graduate’s expertise and skills

 

During their study, the master program students will receive in-depth knowledge in programming and software development (including that for mobile devices), telecommunications and network technologies, modern databases and IT security. The graduates will be able to individually design and/or provide dataware for various computer systems, computing networks, and hardware and software suites.

Professional expertise of the master program graduates includes the development of technical equipment, data, algorithmic and program support of hardware and software suites, computing systems and networks, automated information processing and control systems, and computer-assisted design systems.

Professional activity of the master program graduates includes data support of hardware and software suites, computer and automated systems software, computing devices, suites, systems and networks; automated information processing and control systems; CAD systems and dataware for the lifecycle of industrial products, mathematical, data, technical, linguistic, software, ergonomic, organizational and legal support for the above mentioned systems.

The master program enables a student not only to expand their theoretical knowledge in the field of information technologies, but also get practical skills of operating up-to-date hard- and software systems by participating in the R&D carried out by TUSUR’s engineers and scientists. Particularly it is expected that the master program students will take part in R&D carried out in Research Institute for Automatics and Electrical Engineering with the aim to make hardware and software suites for pre-launch tests of spacecraft power supply systems.

 
Specialization: Software for Computer Devices, Systems and Networks
Department of Control Systems

The master program encompasses all the means, ways and methods, aimed to create and use mathematical support and software for computers and automated systems (AS), to use computers, develop the new spheres and methods of application for computers and AS. Nowadays computers and AS are involved in virtually every bit of the advances of civilization: mobile phones capable of playing games and Internet browsing; personal computers that have become an integral part of any office; supercomputers that can win a game of chess against the world champions; special controllers that control an industrial machine of the elevator in a skyscraper; on-board control systems for aircraft and spacecraft; robotic systems and many more. Mathematical support and software make computers universal and that is why the demand for mathematical support and software specialists is growing day by day.

This academic program is related to a dynamically developing sphere of human activity: information technologies. Consistent development of any organization, higher education institution or company relies on information resources and technologies. The skill to develop, test, and support up-to-date IT and computer resources is highly valued in any sector of national economy. The main advantage of the master program is its generality, the possibility for graduates to work in IT-companies of various scale. The team that have created the academic content of the master program has travelled a long way and acquired a unique experience for Russia in the fields that are necessary to design and develop software systems of various complexity. At the premises of the department, there is the university computing cluster, the capacity of which is 0.5 TeraFLOPS, and the students have the possibility for real study of the computing cluster’s architecture and perform academic and practical calculations.

The spectrum of academic disciplines provides a wide range of specialization for the graduates: from solving various programming tasks and computing mathematics to computer graphics, computing networks, artificial intelligence systems, expert systems and multimedia processing technologies. The excellently equipped computer classes and the super high performance computing cluster enable the training of top-qualification specialists who are confident of their knowledge and themselves. The department has great staff and scientific potential in design and engineering of automated smart information processing, monitoring, control and design systems. Virtually all the academic disciplines are taught by professors-doctors of science. A graduate of the master program has the expertise required to develop smart computers and automated systems.

Research work at the department is carried out within the major “Automation and optimization of information processing and control systems”, which includes the following: the modeling of robotic systems; distributed computing systems for image analysis and processing; identification and control for petroleum industry processes; modeling of economic processes and systems; automation of academic teaching software development; airspace and lidar-based monitoring of the atmosphere.

The students study modern software development technologies, object-oriented programming languages and integrated development environments. They acquire the knowledge and skills of various operation systems and environments. The master program students who possess the necessary professional knowledge and foreign language skills will be given an opportunity to undergo training or apprenticeship in foreign universities and university laboratories (France, for instance).

 
Specialization: Software for Automated Systems
Department of Control and Design Systems

The two-years’ master program enables one to obtain advanced knowledge and get professional skills in the field of up-to-date information technologies and programming, as well as expertise in analytical, academic research activity and teaching.

The training is provided by professors and associate professors of the department as well as the invited leading specialists from research institutes. The training finishes with the defense of the master’s thesis, which is an individual research, carried out under the supervision of an academic adviser who in all cases has an academic title.

The students of this master program enjoy original education methods and obtain the widest spectrum of knowledge about the modern software tools, which allows them to develop software for any sphere of human activity. Certain disciplines enable the students to become enter the staff of research laboratories and science-intensive business as well-prepared professionals.

In course of their study within the master program, the students will learn to use optimization methods while solving professional problems; use available methods and algorithms to address the issues of data interpretation and processing; understand the current approaches to software models verification; use promising methods for research and solution of professional problems, based on their knowledge of the global trends in the development of computer equipment and information technologies; implement the systems with parallel data processing and high-performance systems; create software for data analysis, recognition and processing, and digital signal processing systems; organize industrial testing of the created software.
