On December 18, Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics held EthnoCarnival 2024 for international students of the University of Tomsk.
Held in the House of Scientists, the Carnival brought together more than a hundred students from all member universities of the University of Tomsk, representing a total of 20 countries.
“Tomsk universities currently have an international student population representing 93 countries. This community offers a unique opportunity to experience the cultures of those countries and even participate in their traditions without even having to leave your own city. As a coordinator of the regional Education Export project, TUSUR has taken on the task of creating a multicultural venue for exactly that kind of international exchange within the student community of Tomsk, for the mutual cultural benefit of all students,” said the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Gennady Kobzev.
All participants were encouraged to wear their national dress, which was presented during a fashion show part of the program, with explanation of its meaning. Another focal part of the program was the food show where 15 national dishes were prepared by the students and could be sampled by everyone present. Their cooking was reviewed by a jury of some of the city’s best-known restaurant chefs. And since it was a New Year’s celebration, it was naturally centered around a New Year’s tree and accompanied by competitions and presents.
“The student community of Tomsk is a bubbling melting pot of cultures and traditions that offers immense opportunities for cultural exploration, personal growth and professional networking, both for our international students and for their Russian peers,” said Head of the TUSUR Division of International Cooperation Maria Afanasyeva.
