April 16, 2024

Tomsk has received a delegation of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Russia, headed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan Dauren Abaev. The visit was part of celebration of the 125th anniversary of the famous Soviet geologist and the first President of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan Kanysh Satpaev. As part of his visit, the Ambassador held a meeting with Kazakhstan students studying at Tomsk universities.

The meeting was held in the TUSUR House of the Scientist. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan Dauren Abaev welcomed his fellow countrymen and wished them success in their studies.

Our city has strong ties with Kanysh Satpaev, who was an alumnus of a Tomsk university. After graduation, he dedicated his life to science in his home country. Today, his legacy inspires many students from Kazakhstan.

“TUSUR has traditionally been a major destination for talented Kazakhstan students who, upon graduation, most often return home and serve as ambassadors of our education in their home country,” said Gennady Kobzev, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, TUSUR University.

Today, there are about 6 000 Kazakhstan students in Tomsk, and about 1 300 of them study at TUSUR. Historically, students from the country represented the largest share of all international students in Tomsk.

During its stay in Tomsk, the delegation had meetings with the regional government, representatives of local enterprises and the University of Tomsk. Plans have been made for future cooperation through universities and intensified collaboration in science, education and key industries.
