Students from Belarus and Kazakhstan Explore Advanced Biomedical Technologies at 2023 Scientific Winter School

December 05, 2023

On December 1, the 2023 Science Winter School on Advanced Biomedical Technologies held its final class at TUSUR. The school was co-organized by Siberian State Medical University and Research Institute of Cardiology.

Over the course of two weeks from November 20 to December 1, 30+ Bachelor students from partner universities – Belarusian National Technical University and D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University – explored the expertise of TUSUR in medical electronics. Over this short time, they learned about the university infrastructure and its laboratories and attended lectures about its research projects in biomedicine, as well as introductory lectures on medical cybernetics and IT medicine, electrophysiology and biosystem simulation. Special focus was on one of the most unique projects developed in Tomsk – the genome printer project.

Upon completion of the course, the students made a presentation of their projects. They were tasked with conducting a small market survey with a focus on opportunities for various biomedical technologies in their respective countries. To do so, they had to analyze the technologies in terms of their feasibility and anticipate some of the challenges they may face in specific markets, and then present their findings to a jury of experts representing Tomsk universities and industry, as well as both partner universities.

For TUSUR and its partners Belarusian National Technical University and D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University, the Science Winter School became an important first step in their plans for the creation of joint Master programs.

The 2023 Scientific Winter School was part of the education export project within the framework of the Priority 2030 development program.
